Shootings in Portland Increasing

 I woke up this morning to the report on channel 2 of more shootings in our fair city of Portland, Oregon.  It happened in NE Portland in the 1400 block of NE Broadway, outside a bar in the Lloyd district. 

 3 victims were injured.   Officers arrived and learned that three people had been shot, two adult females and one adult male. All three were transported to a hospital by ambulance and are being treated for injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening. The suspect or suspects left before police were called and no arrests have been made.  

The incidences of shootings has gone up in the past 3 years.  Portland is followed in 3 precincts:  Central, East and North.  Most shootings are coming from East and North Portland.

In 2019, Central had 31  shootings while East had 122 and North had 109.

In 2020, Central had 58 shootings while East had 254 and North had 178.

In 2021, Central had 87 shootings while East had 385 and North had 367.

All the precincts have had almost doubling in increases.

                                           

               Adrian Richardson, shot and killed while on the bus

As of August 9th, we had 56 homicides this year, which is the deadliest year we've had since 1994 when 55 people had been killed.  This time in August,  a man was fatally shot on a TriMet bus in Portland, Oregon, Sunday evening.  

The suspect in the shooting death of Adrian Richardson has been identified as Wayne Conrad Thompson, 47 (photos). PPB Homicide Detectives, with the help of the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, have obtained an arrest warrant for Thompson for Murder in the Second Degree and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

On August 28, 2021 at 3:47p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a report that Wayne Thompson was seen in the area of Southeast 139th Avenue and Southeast Stark Street. Officers did not find him there but did an area check and located him at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Stark Street. He was arrested without incident.

Homicide detectives responded and took custody of Thompson. They booked him into the Multnomah County Detention Center on his Murder II and Felon in Possession of a Firearm warrant.  PPB is grateful to the community for looking for Thompson.                                          

The victim in Friday's homicide (2 days ago)  has been identified as Jacob Knight-Vasquez, 34. His family has been notified of his death and provided a photo for media release. They are not interested in media interviews at this time.  This could be the 57th homicide in Portland so far this year.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined Knight-Vasquez died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.

Homicide detectives do not believe Knight-Vasquez was the intended target of the shooting. Preliminary investigation indicates the suspect fired a gun into the restaurant from the outside, where the victims were struck, then left to the west on Northwest Glisan Street.
