Living the Seinfeld lifeThe high prices of food have hit the pantry of our assisted Living quarters evidently for my $8,000 per month rent that included food that hasn't been enough to carry over today's prices and changes.
Today's main meal at noon was the pits; the absolute pits. It consisted of barbequed beef ribs and chicken, which turned out to be alfredo chicken, which meant it had a cream sauce on it, possibly with or without cheese. We start lunch with a green salad which was typical and good with honey mustard dressing and dried onions.
I chose the beef ribs. That turned out to look lovely, just like beef ribs, only cutting into it found no bone at all. Instead, it consisted of 4 ribbed shared forms made of hamburger with a brownish barbeque sauce that was good over them. Nary a bone in the set. Of course, it made cutting with our very dull knives a very easy chore that my fork did easily.
For a veggie, there was steamed Brussel sprouts, and that was well-done, and for the first time, too. Brussel sprouts are a tough veggie if not well-done, and they usually weren't.
Pasta was on the menu, but they were out of any pasta and had nothing; not even potatoes to take it's place. My table mate had chosen chicken and pasta and her plate was the sorriest looking site for a lunch; one thin-sliced slab of chicken drowning in a yellow sauce. That was it. She hates veggies but loved pasta. Ha !
This was known to be our main meal of the day. Thank goodness I had a big breakfast of fruit cup, 1/2 C. oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar, and 2 fried eggs.
Can't wait for our surprise for dinner which I usually make into a very light meal.. We try to be very grateful, having a chef and a server on duty. Life could be worse.
Well now, our ship finally came in. Our chef was great for dinner, and I chose a salmon and citrus salad, again with a bit of honey mustard dressing. The citrus was baby mandarin pieces with blueberies, and the salmon was fresh and perfect on a bed of endive. This chef on duty is terrific. We are blessed. Always dieting, that's me. Dieting, keeping kosher and trying to get the necessities like protein. So I try to stay away from desserts.
Now, the next day, Saturday, and the lunch again started well, a green salad, but there was nothing I could eat except a Turkey burger which I had. Dinner has not a thing I can eat except another turkey burger or vanilla ice cream, so I have taken my leave and will see what my son has stocked for me in my little freezer for days such as this. The extras included cole slaw and brussel sprouts again which I had with my turkey burger at lunch. No protein. Not even any carbohydrate like rice or potatoes! I could have had a taco with cheese and chicken in it--no way, not kosher, or another salad of green with some chicken on it, after talking to our CT. By now, I have just lost any interest in a lite supper. Picky me.
