The total death rate for the state of Oregon has always been from its elderly population.
2018:= 36,191.
For ages 65+=27,914.
From ages 0 to 64= 8,277 deaths from other than causes from old age.
2019:= 37,386
For ages 65+=28,940
From ages 0 to 64=8,446 deaths from other than causes from old age.
PORTLAND, Oregon (Sept. 28, 2020 — An outbreak of COVID-19 has hit a Northeast Portland care center.
Gateway Care and Retirement has room for 59 residents. Company leaders confirm that 14 residents and 7 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.
One of those positive cases is Gene Lynch. He is at the facility recovering from spinal surgery.
2020 since January has been hit by Coronavirus/COVID 19. It's a different year. Awareness about it started in March.
The number of newly tested Oregonians rose to 34,591 and the percentage of positive tests rose sharply to 8.4%. Thirty-seven Oregonians were reported to have died in association with COVID-19—compared to 27 the previous week and 160 were hospitalized.
2020 Oregon deaths from COVID 19 by 11/7/2020= 716.
No doubt many of these come from ages 65+ that were hurried in death by COVID 19.
Weekly Report
Nov. 4, 2020 - In the latest Weekly Report OHA reports that during the week of Monday, Oct. 26, through Sunday, Nov. 1, OHA recorded 3,542 new cases of COVID-19 infection—up 34% from last week’s tally of 2,642. This is the second consecutive week daily case counts set a record high for the pandemic.
The number of newly tested Oregonians rose to 34,591 and the percentage of positive tests rose sharply to 8.4%.
Thirty-seven Oregonians were reported to have died in association with COVID-19—compared to 27 the previous week and 160 were hospitalized.
People aged 20 to 49 accounted for the largest percentage of infection at 56%, despite accounting for 39% of the total population. Persons under 30 accounted for 38% of the cases. People over 80 accounted for 50% of COVID-19 associated deaths and people over 70 accounted for 74% of deaths associated with the illness.

Age 80+= 50% of COVID deaths
Ages 20-49=56% of cases which is 39% of total Oregon population
Schools are not major drivers of COVID-19 spread across Oregon. Cases are appearing at schools because there is more community spread.
2020 Oregon deaths= as yet to be determined.
COVID 19 attacks all ages, even youth but the deaths start around age 70 so be very careful at all ages. The youth can certainly be carriers to the older population.
Common Flu
On the national scale, influenza and pneumonia deaths gradually decreased between
1999 and 2017. The severity of the flu varies depending on the person, the flu season,
and the flu virus active that year. The most at-risk populations
include seniors and young children as their immune
systems are more likely to be compromised. Serious cases of
the flu can result in hospitalizations. Even more serious cases result in death.
Most of us get vaccinated to prevent getting the flu. "Influenza, or flu, is a serious
respiratory illness that is easily spread from person to person. We are all at risk
for getting and spreading the flu. If you have asthma or other lung diseases, you
are at higher risk of developing complications from the flu. Health officials
recommend that everyone 6 months of age and older receive an influenza
vaccination each and every year. We encourage you to speak with your healthcare
provider to learn more about influenza and annual vaccination.
